Expansion of existing effort
Provides feeling of larger area
Leverages pristine habitat acquisition
Notes:
As of Monday last week, WDF has signed the necessary letters with Port Townsend Paper that begins the process of assessing the property shown in yellow on this slide.
This land and other properties now owned by Port Townsend Paper Company is expected to be purchased as fish habitat in an effort to restore fish runs on the Chimacum Creek. Efforts to create self-sustaining fish runs on this creek are ongoing, involving wetlands in the headwaters and slides in the creek, and the acquisition of the mouth and tidelands at the creeks mouth directly to the north. Millions of dollars have been allocated to acquisitions and even more is expected for restoration efforts.
This current Chimacum Creek Park project leverages much of the effort for recreational benefits. The proximity of the park site to the habitat acquisition is apparent in this slide.
