View to the south from site of old Steel Mill
Undeveloped shoreline to Lower Hadlock
Notes:
This view shows a beach-walk that extends from the site to the community of Lower Hadlock.
During World War I there was a thriving steel mill at this site.
Materials have been removed , but signs of the old buildings - including the old Irondale Jail - can still be found. This is a site with a very rich history, begging to be interpreted.
The preliminary site plan shows a boat launch ramp at this point on the beach, a place for kayakers and canoeists to launch that is an appropriate distance from sensitive habitat at the creek mouth.
Historically, small boaters have driven directly to the creek mouth to put in, but the site plan pulls back the parking to an area much closer to the entry from Moore Street, to provide a much needed buffer along the creek.
