Enhances Habitat Acquisitions
Reduces cost of both Park and habitat restoration
Passive recreational opportunities developed in concert with restoration, natural and cultural history interpretation
Beach restoration benefits all users
Notes:
Reduces cost by utilizing the protected viewsheds provided by the habitat purchases at the creek mouth, on both sides of the creek and up stream conservation easements which prevent inappropriate encroachment of residential development into the creek corridor. These all contribute to the park’s “wilderness gestalt” - extending the depth of solitude and available from a small parcel so close to a densely platted, rapidly urbanizing area.
Site restoration (removal of shoreline hardening and fill cap that covers the natural beach and part of the estuary) benefits habitat at creek mouth and recreational users, by restoring the natural beach under the hardening, and allowing a return of natural littoral processes.
Return of the natural spit and beach at the north end of the site will create an exceptional recreation site along the beach at the creek mouth. Restoration of the drainage corridor and recapture of the stormwater that now runs down Moore Street will be a further benefit to recreational users and habitat.
