Chimacum Creek Estuary
Notes:
This fly over shows the proximity of the property to the mouth of Chimacum Creek, the only unroaded estuary in the area. At the upper right in this photo, immediately north of the park project, is an area known as Kala Point, now being developed as residential land.
Department of Fish and Wildlife expects to acquire much of the land along the north side of the creek as critical habitat to support self sustaining fish runs on Chimacum Creek. This acquisition provides a buffer between the development and the estuary. It also creates a backdrop for the proposed park.
The acquisition will ensure protection of the far side of the creek, creating a much larger area of wildness than would normally be afforded by purchase of the tidelands south of the creek, and a much “deeper” wilderness experience than a park this size would normally provide.
